The Denning Story
The year was 1993 and the location was the quaint town of Triang, Pahang. The Denning Man, then a young rookie lawyer, took a leap of faith and ventured out to start his own practice focusing on conveyancing matters.
As his new conveyancing practice grew in volume, he started using Microsoft MailMerge technology in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to reduce the effort it took to draft standard documents. Due to a combination of limitations in Microsoft Excel technology and an industrious soul, he then began to explore other technologies to further reduce the need for repetitive manual work.
The Denning Man then experimented with Microsoft Access to build the first version of the Denning Law Office Suite – a simple database cum document generation program. As the years went by and more work came in, he realized the need to develop an all-encompassing system that also covered file status tracking, billing and accounting aspects of practice.
Three programmers were recruited to join the Denning team in 2003 to make law office automation a reality. The biggest challenge the Denning Man faced was familiarizing programmers (who had no legal knowledge) with the nuances of law firm workflow.
After an arduous 7 years of development and testing, the first true law office automation system in Malaysia, the Denning Law Office Suite Version 2, was finally released as a publically available system in 2010.
Now, in its 3rd iteration, boosted by partnerships with Brickfields Asia College and Multimedia University Cyberjaya, the Denning Law Office Suite version 3.x (codenamed “Denning 360″) is Malaysia’s most comprehensive and user-friendly Law Office Automation System used and trusted by over 160 law firms across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. It covers all aspects of practice, from file database management, document drafting, KIV, document management all the way down to billing and accounting.
